Disaster Management
SHIS always stood by the victims affected with sudden disaster. Often it happens that Government aid takes time to reach these victims after maintaining all official formalities. It becomes unbearable for the victims to sustain till then. Wohab prefers to choose such incidents and rush with his team and aid to support such victims. There are endless occasions when Wohab with his team mates stood by the victims. To cite an example of the storm of year 2001, when thousands of villagers in Nadia were rendered homeless. Wohab rushed with his team and aid and fed thousands of homeless ones and gave them shelter for temporary dwelling.

It so happened in October 2002 that a Private Bus on its way to Ghatakpur in Sunderban, turned turtle and fell into the roadside canal. 20 people were dead in the sad incident. The family members of the deceased were on the street. SHIS extended food/clothing support to them and took care of their children for their education and boarding/ lodging till they complete their Schooling.

Some of the family members of the deceased were given employment in SHIS and were included as member of SHIS.

Again during first week of December, there was a mad storm at Bay of Bengal. 47 poor fishermen those who went for fishing in the deep sea, were declared missing. They did not come back to shore even after 10 days. Government aid to the family members of these victims would reach them only after ascertaining that they would not return back.

It might take few months time to process the entire matter in government level. But then how would the family members survive till then? They were starving for one course meal even.

Wohab did not delay in extending hand to Sri Kanti Ganguly, the Honourable Minister, Government of West Bengal for Sunderban Development. Wohab with his team mates, joined hands with the minister and distributed ration (50 kg rice, 5 Kg Dal, Spices, salt and edible oil) to the disaster affected families even reaching them at their remotely located villages on 15th December, 2002. Food for one month's survival to each of the 47 families and blanket to protect them from the cold, were distributed reaching the different remote villages under Diamond Harbour and Kakdweep Sub Division of 24 Parganas South district where the families resides. Wohab knew that these poor victims can not reach SHIS and SHIS has to reach them with aid for their immediate survival.
Wohab proposed for a thrift fund financed by SHIS which would give loan to the next of keen of the missing or dead person in the tragedy, for earning their livelihood. Wohab promised that one child from each of the victimized family would be accommodated in the Free school run by SHIS and they will be taken care of their food, accommodation. clothes and education, till their schooling. It was a great gesture on the part of Sri Ashim Das, the Chairman of Diamond Harbour Municipality, who was also present with the team. He assured that some of the children from the disaster affected families would be taken care of in the Child Care center run under his initiative at Diamond Harbour.
