North Bengal Clinics

Clinics in North Bengal
SHIS has spread its activities in the jungle of North Bengal where the far sited tribes and villagers are not aware of their basic need. The areas at the foothill of Himalayan range in the Northern part of West Bengal have almost similar topography and Geography of Sunderbans. Poor accessibility of road transportation, absence of doctors & health centers and basic sanitation are the perennial problems of the jungle dwellers of north Bengal. They have only option left is, to approach the exorcists on whom they largely depend on, for their health care.

At this stage, SHIS thought of spreading its network of community development amongst these jungle dwellers. Health care was targeted as the first means for community development. A SHIS Center started operating in the Jalpaiguri town. Department of Forest, Government of West Bengal extended their full support. Two number of clinics with doctors, pathology centers, ambulance and medicine are being inaugurated on 1st July, 2003, at Rajabhatkhawa and Rasik Bill area of Jalpaiguri district. Prime aim is to treat Malaria and Tuberculosis which are the menace in day-to-day life of these jungle dwellers.
