Herbal Medicine Program

The idea for the Herbal Medicine was born from a distinct need. Women in the target area had few opportunities to obtain economic empowerment, SHIS introduced herbal medicine plantation by giving loan to the target women, so as they can grow medicine plants / herbs at their backyard or lease land.

The leaves, stems, branches, shoots, etc. were then purchased from them at market rate. After earning some amount of money, they could well payback their loan in easy installment, thus slowly and gradually they acquired some sense of empowerment financially, which has enabled them to stand on their own feet and to do something for their family member as well as for themselves.

Gradually, SHIS felt the need of modern health care or standard public health services at very low cost with traditional herbal medicine / supplements.

The use of herbal medicines in India is becoming increasingly popular, now a days, though this system of medicine was there for centuries. Interest in medicinal plants has burgeoned due to increased efficiency of new plant-derived drugs, growing interest in natural products and rising concerns about the side effects of conventional medicine. Medical plants will continue to play important roles in human health.

Herbal medicine is also called botanical medicine or phytomedicine, and is defined as the use of whole plants or part of plants to prevent or treat illness. SHIS Herbal Medicines manufacturing unit use various plant parts which includes seeds, berries, roots, leaves, bark, or flowers.

With the full fledged herbal medicine production, commercially, SHIS has stepped into a new venture not only in view for sustainability but for bringing the herbal medicines in SHIS clinics as well as other clinics as a part of the mainstream health programme. About 80% of the target population use herbal products as medications and SHIS is gradually making its presences felt. The demand for SHIS herbal medicine is increasing day by day. To coupe up with the ever increasing demand, SHIS has planned to expand its herbal medicine production unit to 2 fold.

Currently, SHIS Herbal Division is producing 6 items viz., LIV SHIS, PEPTO SHIS, DIA SHIS, COLD SHIS, LEU SHIS & DYSEN SHIS, all in Tablet form. Very soon launching of liquid version of LIV SHIS and COLD SHIS will be done.
