SHIS Mobile Boat Dispensaries is a part of its endeavour to introduce healthcare awareness and contemporary health care services seeking behavior among the rural masses and the underprivileged in the outreach and remote areas (islands) of Sunderbans.
Under this programme, SHIS's aim is to reach out to over 35-40 lakh beneficiaries. |
Mobile Boat Dispensaries, a mega project funded by the great Philanthropist Mr. Dominique Lapierre of France - aims to take comprehensive health care services (preventive, promotive and curative) to rural remote villages and will reach out to the most underprivileged but needy people across the inaccessible Sunderbans. The project intends to bring medical expertise from nearby Kolkata to the rural areas.
The services provided are OPD, Minor surgery, BP examination, X-ray, Pathology, ECG, First Aid, Vitamin-A Prophylaxis, Treatment of mal-nutrient cases and linking up with SHIS is own RCH programme to provide Ante-natal/post-natal services, identification of difficult pregnancy and referral for institutional care, Immunization - Mother & children, distribution of Iron Folic, Vitamin A tablets, etc.
Children and Women's health is one of SHIS's prime concerns. A referral service network has been developed with the SHIS’s own Mobile Health Care Services (MHCS). Education and counseling on Health and hygiene, Family planning promotion with emphasis on condom usage for safe sex, spacing methods had also been imparted. The programme is one of its kind in India, ensuring and organising regular health camps, including minor surgical interventions at various islands of Sunderbans.
