Population stabilization is important for sustainable development. This requires that family planning and reproductive health care is accessible to all.
The Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) programme that are being implemented by Southern Health Improvement Samity (SHIS) to provide quality services and achieve multiple objectives. There has been a positive paradigm shift from the method-mix target based activity to client centred, demand driven quality services at the outreach areas.
The RCH programme focuses on addressing the unmet RCH needs by delivering RCH services, in areas which are under-served or un-served by the government infrastructure. Proposed programme is aimed to enhance male involvement and partnership in improving the reproductive health status of women and children in 4 blocks of South 24 Parganas, viz. Namkhana, Kakdwip, Patharpratima and Kultali. The intervention also includes adolescent population. Community needs are adequately mobilized to generate demand for RCH services in the target region.

Objectives
- Reduction of Maternal Morbidity and Mortality (MMR)
- Reduction of Infant Morbidity and Mortality (IMR)
- Reduction of Under 5 Morbidity and Mortality (U5MR)
- Promotion of adolescent health
- Control of reproductive tract infections and sexually transmitted infections.
Broadly, the programme aims to universalize the immunization, ante-natal care, skilled attendance by DAI (Traditional Birth Attendant) during delivery. Greater stress on improving neonatal care at all levels, homes and community, so as to substantially reduce the infant mortality. Referral services are been ensured at District Hospital and in selected sub-district hospitals ensuring transport of the patient in time. The family planning services will also be expanded. |
